Discounts and Special Offers for Foster Families

We all know that fostering costs money.  Many foster parents end up using their own money to provide for their foster children, so it’s nice when you come across the opportunity to save!  If you are a foster parent, you need to be taking advantage of these deals!

Ashley Furniture Bed Give-Away

If you have a foster child that’s 3 years old or older, you can nominate them for a free bed from Ashley Furniture.  They partner with Hope to Dream and give out 50,000 beds to children who could benefit from proper sleep conditions.  They give out a bed, bed frame, bedding, and pillow (which amounts to a $399 value)!  Click here to nominate a child in your home.

$5.99 Amazon Prime Discount

Amazon has a reduced Prime rate for individuals with an active EBT or Medicaid card.  This discount also applies to families with adoptive or long-term foster children who have a Medicaid card, even if the account holder is not on government assistance (I even chatted with an Amazon associate to verify).  All you have to do is go here and upload a copy of the card.  Be aware that there is a 48 month limit on this discount, so your family won’t be able to enjoy the lower price indefinitely (not that we’re complaining!).

Zoos and Museums

Individual zoos and museums across the country offer reduced or free admission if you present an MA health insurance card or your WIC booklet.  I have even heard of state parks giving out passes for foster families.  Since it changes by region, you’ll have to ask the next time you’re thinking of taking the kids to the children’s museum!

2 Free Games of Bowling

Certain bowling centers across the country are participating in a program called Kids Bowl Free.  The program is intended to give children a safe and fun summer activity.  Click here to find out if your city is participating.

YMCA

Most YMCA’s offer a discount for foster families.  You can usually qualify for half the membership cost if sign up as a foster family (I have heard of up to 80% off!).  May is National Foster Care Month, and the YMCA offers free swimming passes for foster families.  Take advantage of the pool because the offer is only valid in May!

4moms Care

4moms is the maker of the coveted Mamaroo infant swing, which has been a lifesaver for many a mom with a newborn going through withdrawals.  4moms Care has donated almost $1.5 million worth of products to deserving families.  You can submit a request here for a 4moms product, and you may be chosen for a donation!

Thrive Market

Thrive Market is an online health food store.  They sell wholesale items at 25-50% off the retail price, and you get all those savings by signing up for an annual membership.  It’s kind of the perfect way for foster parents to shop because you can do all your shopping from the couch and are guaranteed that quality, healthy foods.  What’s really awesome about this company is that they give back to low-income families, teachers, and veterans through Thrive Gives.  It’s a very simple application, and you’ll hear back in just a few days whether if you’ve qualified for a free membership.

Once Upon a Child

Many Once Upon a Child stores offer a 10% discount for foster families.  Contact your local store to find out if you can take advantage of this discount!

ABC Mouse

ABC Mouse has been known to offer 2 free months for foster children using the program.  The discount is on an individual basis, so you would need to contact customer support to see if your foster child qualifies.

National Diaper Bank Network

One in three families experiences a diaper need.  The NDBN’s mission to provide clean diapers for children across the country.  Go to their website to find out if you have a diaper bank in your community or if you’re interested in setting one up.

Similac Strong Moms and Enfamil Family Beginnings

We all know that formula is expensive.  WIC is amazing and so worth it, but it doesn’t always cover all the formula you go through in a month.  You can sign up for Similac Strong Moms and Enfamil Family Beginnings to receive coupons and free samples in the mail.

I tried to stick to national offers, but there are likely state and citywide organizations and programs that support and donate to foster families.  Aside from what’s listed above, you could also check into summer camp discounts for foster children in your area.  Happy savings and let us know at stillorphans@gmail.com if there is anything you think we should add to the list!  Be sure to check out our posts “Foster Care Grants,'”Children’s Clothing: Steals, Deals, and Organization,” and “Foster Mattress Program.”
